Meet the OWC
The ladies of OWC met when they were undergraduates at Rice University and bonded over their shared love of books, craft beer, and of course, cats. In August 2016, they created a monthly book club as a way to stay connected as their lives inevitably grew busier after graduation. They never intended to transform their book club into something more, but in May 2022, a congressional tweet went viral : “How many of the women rallying against overturning Roe are over-educated, under-loved millennials who sadly return from protests to a lonely microwave dinner with their cats, and no bumble matches.” In response, this bookclub officially renamed itself to "Overeducated Women with Cats" and began sharing book recommendations to fight the closed-minded world view embodied in that now infamous tweet. The OWC page is a safe space online where anyone - the "overeducated" or otherwise - can join in thoughtful discussion about books (or cats!).
