InstaReview: You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi

"You were so generous with your heart. You were like light. I couldn't help but turn my face to you if I wanted to keep living."

Akwaeke Emezi has a unique way of reinventing genres with her raw and electric writing style. Yes, this is a “romance” novel - but don’t be fooled into thinking you’re reading about a traditional love story. Feyi lost her husband, the love of her life, in a tragic accident that shattered her world and cast her into darkness. It’s been five years since that fateful night, when she meets him. A man that electrifies her soul and brings the light back to her life. But this connection may have disastrous consequences, what’s a girl to do?

Emezi intricately weaves grief and trauma into a love story without overburdening the reader and surprisingly makes it a very sexy read. The dialogue is gritty and real and the deep emotional content only amplified the connection we had with the characters. We whole-heartedly recommend this novel (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) and hope those who enjoy traditional romance novels go into this one with an open mind.
